Information Security Intern Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information security intern in Wisconsin?
The most direct path is enrollment in a cybersecurity, computer science, or information systems program at a Wisconsin university or technical college, such as UW-Madison, Marquette, or one of the sixteen Wisconsin Technical College System campuses. Wisconsin does not require a state-issued license for information security interns, but employers strongly prefer candidates who have completed relevant coursework, a Capture the Flag competition, or a foundational certification like CompTIA Security+ before applying.
Which companies hire information security interns in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin information security intern roles are posted by Children's Wisconsin, Family Health Center, and Uline and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wisconsin's deep concentration of financial technology, insurance, and healthcare IT firms means internship programs here tend to focus on compliance, data protection, and enterprise network security rather than consumer-facing product work.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most information security intern jobs?
Madison, Milwaukee, and La Crosse account for the largest share of information security intern openings in Wisconsin. Milwaukee dominates because of its concentration of financial services and insurance headquarters, Madison draws heavily from the UW system and state government IT needs, and Green Bay reflects the manufacturing and healthcare sectors anchored by Bellin Health and Schneider National.
Are there remote information security intern jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes, and more than many technical internship fields, since much of the analytical and monitoring work in information security can be done remotely. About 85% of information security intern openings tied to Wisconsin are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broad adoption across the industry. Roles focused on security operations center monitoring, threat intelligence research, and compliance documentation are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a information security intern in Wisconsin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured internship programs at Wisconsin's large employers while still in school, particularly at institutions like Epic Systems in Verona, Fiserv in Milwaukee, or the UW Health system in Madison, which routinely take candidates with no prior professional experience. Building a home lab, earning CompTIA Security+, and competing in collegiate CTF events give Wisconsin candidates a concrete edge. Adjacent roles like IT helpdesk or systems administration at Wisconsin community organizations or campus IT departments also provide the hands-on exposure hiring managers look for.
Where can I find and apply to information security intern jobs in Wisconsin?
You can find and apply to information security intern jobs in Wisconsin on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Wisconsin employers. Search for roles that match your background, review the requirements, and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience level and availability.
