Internship Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a internship job in Chicago?
Chicago's strongest internship markets are financial services in the Loop, tech and startups in Fulton Market, and healthcare systems on the Near North Side. Candidates who stand out typically combine relevant coursework or project work with familiarity with Chicago's specific industry mix. Applying directly to mid-size firms and regional institutions, not just large national names, tends to open more doors in this city.
Which companies hire internships in Chicago?
Chicago internship roles are posted by Lettuce Entertain You, FHLBank Chicago, and CNA Insurance and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's employer base is unusually broad, mixing global financial firms and Fortune 500 headquarters with a dense layer of regional professional services companies and fast-growing startups.
Are there remote internship jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the type of work. About 86% of internship openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest share in data, analytics, marketing, and software roles. Lab-based, clinical, and on-floor financial positions in Chicago almost always require in-person attendance.
How can I get a internship job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through structured programs at large employers, regional banks, hospital systems like Northwestern Medicine or Rush, or the city's major consulting and professional services firms, which recruit actively from Illinois universities. Applying to rotational or summer cohort programs, rather than open-ended postings, gives early-career candidates the clearest shot at landing their first role in this market.
Which industries hire the most internships in Chicago?
The sectors hiring the most internships in Chicago are Consulting & Professional Services, Manufacturing, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's role as a major hub for finance, commodities trading, healthcare, and enterprise technology means those sectors sustain internship pipelines year-round rather than only in summer.
