Accounting Intern Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Illinois?
Accounting intern roles in Illinois are open to students actively enrolled in an accredited accounting or finance program, typically after completing foundational coursework in financial and managerial accounting. Illinois does not require interns to hold a CPA license, but candidates who have passed sections of the CPA exam, administered through the Illinois Board of Examiners, stand out strongly. Most Illinois firms recruit through campus programs at universities including the University of Illinois and DePaul University.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Illinois?
Illinois accounting intern roles are posted by Shure, GGP, and RLI and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and regional public accounting offices means both large corporate finance teams and mid-size CPA firms are consistent sources of intern openings throughout the year.
Which Illinois cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Chicago, Niles, and Moline have the most accounting intern openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the largest share by far given its concentration of corporate headquarters, Big Four and regional public accounting offices, and financial services firms, while Schaumburg and Peoria contribute meaningfully because of large anchor employers in manufacturing and healthcare that maintain sizable accounting departments.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most entry-level roles, since accounting work is largely desk-based and data-driven. About 83% of accounting intern openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a broader shift across corporate finance and public accounting teams. Tasks most commonly done remotely include data entry, financial statement preparation, and spreadsheet reconciliation, while audit fieldwork and client-facing work typically remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured intern programs at Illinois-based corporations and public accounting firms that explicitly target first- or second-year college students with no prior work history. Caterpillar, Walgreens, and large regional firms such as Baker Tilly run formal rotational and early-career accounting programs in Illinois. Volunteering with VITA tax assistance sites, which operate through community colleges across Illinois, builds verifiable experience. Candidates who have begun CPA exam preparation through the Illinois Board of Examiners demonstrate initiative that offsets limited work history.
Where can I find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings updated regularly.
