Accounting Intern Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Minnesota?
Most accounting intern roles in Minnesota require active enrollment in an accounting, finance, or business program at a Minnesota college or university. Employers typically look for candidates who have completed foundational coursework in financial and managerial accounting before the internship begins. While Minnesota does not require a state license to work as an intern, students pursuing the CPA credential should be aware that the Minnesota Board of Accountancy oversees licensure requirements they will eventually need to meet.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring accounting interns in Minnesota include U.S. Bank, Federated Insurance, and CHS, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and large regional healthcare systems creates a particularly broad range of internship environments, from corporate treasury and tax teams to healthcare finance and public accounting firms.
Which Minnesota cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Minneapolis, Mankato, and Owatonna have the most accounting intern openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the majority of postings because of its dense cluster of corporate headquarters, regional banks, Big Four and regional public accounting offices, and large healthcare organizations, while secondary markets like Rochester benefit from anchor institutions such as Mayo Clinic that run their own finance internship pipelines.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, since accounting intern work is largely desk-based and analytical. About 80% of accounting intern openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the flexibility large corporate employers have extended to finance teams. Tasks like reconciliation, data entry, and financial report preparation translate well to remote settings, though audit-focused or treasury roles often still require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured internship programs at Minnesota's large corporate employers before completing your degree. Target, General Mills, and UnitedHealth Group each run formal internship programs designed for students with limited professional experience. Campus recruitment through University of Minnesota, Minnesota State, and Saint Cloud State is another reliable channel. Completing the first two accounting courses and earning a Microsoft Excel certification strengthens a resume considerably when hands-on experience is thin.
Where can I find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings updated regularly. Search the listings to see roles that match your schedule, location preference, and area of focus, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
