Accounting Intern Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Indiana?
Most accounting intern positions in Indiana require active enrollment in an accredited accounting or business degree program, typically after completing sophomore-level coursework in financial and managerial accounting. Indiana does not require a state license to work as an intern, but candidates aiming for full-time CPA roles will need to meet Indiana's Board of Accountancy education requirements, which include specific credit hours in accounting and business subjects before sitting for the CPA exam.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Indiana?
Employers hiring accounting interns in Indiana right now include Cleveland-Cliffs, Republic Airways, and Simon Property, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Indiana's large manufacturing headquarters, regional hospital systems, and Big Four public accounting offices in Indianapolis are consistently among the most active sources of structured intern programs with defined rotations.
Which Indiana cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Indianapolis, Carmel, and Fort Wayne have the most accounting intern openings in Indiana. Indianapolis dominates due to its concentration of corporate headquarters, regional banks, and the largest public accounting firms in the state, while Fort Wayne and Evansville generate steady openings through mid-size manufacturers, regional health systems, and community banks that run semester-based intern programs.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Indiana?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical fields since many Indiana accounting internships involve handling physical documents, attending in-office team reviews, and shadowing staff. About 100% of accounting intern openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the remote-eligible roles concentrated in bookkeeping support, accounts payable data entry, and financial reporting tasks that do not require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured intern programs at Indiana's large employers before completing a formal internship. Eli Lilly, Indiana University Health, and the regional offices of public accounting firms such as Kruggel Lawton and Katz Sapper Miller recruit students after their freshman or sophomore year for introductory rotations. Candidates with no prior experience gain an edge by passing at least one section of the CPA exam early, holding a relevant software certification, or completing campus accounting club leadership that demonstrates applied bookkeeping or tax preparation work.
