Investment Banking Associate Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an investment banking associate job in Chicago?
Focus your search on the Loop and River North, where Chicago's densest concentration of investment banks, boutique advisory firms, and middle-market sponsors operate. Mid-market M&A and industrials coverage are particularly active in Chicago given the city's manufacturing and logistics base. An MBA from a Chicago-area program, a CFA, or prior analyst experience at a regional firm gives candidates a clear edge over generalist applicants in this market.
Which companies hire investment banking associates in Chicago?
Employers hiring investment banking associates in Chicago right now include Fitch Ratings, Google, and Deloitte, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's hiring mix skews toward middle-market boutiques, regional bulge-bracket offices, and specialized advisory shops focused on industrials, consumer, and healthcare sectors.
Are there remote investment banking associate jobs in Chicago?
Yes, but they are uncommon. Investment banking associate work is largely deal-driven and client-facing, which keeps most roles tied to the office. About 37% of investment banking associate openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those flexible arrangements tend to cover modeling, research, and document-preparation work rather than live deal execution or client coverage.
How can I get an investment banking associate job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through a summer associate program at a mid-market firm or a boutique with a Loop or River North office. Lateral moves from corporate banking, accounting, or private equity analyst roles at Chicago-based firms are common. Targeting smaller advisory shops that run lean teams, attending events hosted by the CFA Society Chicago, and building deal exposure through community or regional bank roles all strengthen a local application.
Which industries hire the most investment banking associates in Chicago?
The sectors hiring the most investment banking associates in Chicago are Investment & Asset Management, Consulting & Professional Services, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's position as a hub for industrials, financial services, and healthcare companies creates consistent deal flow that drives steady associate demand across those verticals.
