Wealth Advisor Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a wealth advisor in Illinois?
To practice as a wealth advisor in Illinois, you need to register as an Investment Adviser Representative through the Illinois Securities Department, which oversees licensing under the Illinois Securities Law. Most employers require passing the Series 65 exam or the Series 66 in combination with the Series 7. A bachelor's degree in finance or a related field is the standard entry requirement, and many Illinois firms expect candidates to be working toward or to already hold the CFP designation.
How much do wealth advisors make in Illinois?
Wealth advisors in Illinois earn a median of about $120,130 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,820 for the lowest 10% to over $328,650 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire wealth advisors in Illinois?
Employers hiring wealth advisors in Illinois right now include JPMorganChase, Citi, and RK Partners, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's deep concentration of financial services headquarters and regional offices, particularly in the Chicago metro, means consistent demand from both large national firms and independent registered investment advisers.
Which Illinois cities have the most wealth advisor jobs?
Chicago, Skokie, and Normal have the most wealth advisor openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its concentration of corporate headquarters, private banks, and independent advisory firms, while Naperville and Schaumburg attract openings from suburban wealth management offices and regional financial planning practices that serve the broader northeastern Illinois corridor.
Are there remote wealth advisor jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical roles, since wealth advising depends heavily on ongoing client relationships and trust-building that most firms still manage in person. About 47% of wealth advisor openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements more prevalent than fully remote. The tasks most often performed remotely include financial plan preparation, portfolio review, and client reporting.
How can I get hired as a wealth advisor in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a financial advisor associate or client service associate role at a bank or wirehouse, where you support senior advisors while building toward your own book. Northern Trust, Baird, and large Illinois-based credit unions regularly bring on associates without a full client-facing background. Passing the Series 65 exam before you apply gives you a concrete edge, and some firms will sponsor the exam once you're hired. Candidates who move laterally from banking, insurance, or financial analysis roles with client contact often advance quickly into advisory positions.
Where can I find and apply to wealth advisor jobs in Illinois?
