Ios Software Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ios software engineer in New York?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though strong portfolio candidates from bootcamps also get hired. New York requires no state-issued license for software engineers. Employers in New York consistently prioritize demonstrated Swift proficiency and published App Store work, so building and shipping personal or open-source iOS apps before applying gives candidates a meaningful edge in a competitive market.
How much do ios software engineers make in New York?
Ios software engineers in New York earn a median of about $166,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,430 for the lowest 10% to over $224,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ios software engineers in New York?
Employers hiring ios software engineers in New York right now include Suno, Radar, and Whatnot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's fintech and media sectors drive particularly consistent iOS demand, with financial services firms and large consumer app companies maintaining dedicated mobile engineering teams across the city.
Which New York cities have the most ios software engineer jobs?
New York, New York City, and Buffalo have the most ios software engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates due to its concentration of fintech headquarters, global media companies, and advertising technology firms, while surrounding metro areas benefit from satellite offices and remote-flexible roles tied to those same Manhattan-anchored employers.
Are there remote ios software engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 34% of ios software engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and collaborative-but-flexible nature of mobile software development. Roles focused on greenfield feature development and individual contributor work tend to be the most remote-compatible, while on-site expectations are more common for lead and staff engineers at larger New York firms.
How can I get hired as a ios software engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to associate or junior engineer programs at large New York technology employers, several of which run structured new-graduate rotational programs. Fintech firms and media companies in New York frequently post junior iOS roles that accept candidates from adjacent positions such as QA engineer or Android developer. A portfolio of two or three polished App Store submissions, or an active GitHub showing Swift projects, consistently moves early-career candidates past screening at New York employers who might otherwise require prior professional experience.
