ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to build and operate the technical platforms that empower DRW’s engineers, researchers, and trading businesses to rapidly scale, collaborate, and innovate while minimizing risk. This role focuses on massively scaled infrastructure and systems that power workflows across research, simulation, and live trading, with an emphasis on robust design, high-quality code, and operational excellence.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, distributed infrastructure platforms across on-premises and public cloud environments that enable engineers and data scientists to deploy and operate workloads efficiently.
- Build and evolve platform frameworks and self-service tooling (libraries, templates, golden paths) that standardize provisioning, deployment, runtime operations, and developer workflows.
- Define and promote platform engineering best practices, architectural patterns, reliability standards, and technology guardrails through documentation, training sessions, and hands-on support.
- Establish and mature reliability practices: SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, capacity planning, performance baselining, resilience testing, and change management.
- Own observability foundations (metrics, logs, traces), alerting strategies, and automated diagnostics to reduce MTTR and improve system transparency.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts, conducting thorough post-mortems and implementing preventive measures to improve system resilience.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies (including GenAI and open-source tools) into the platform ecosystem, conducting proof-of-concepts and making data-driven recommendations for adoption.
- Lead cross-functional platform initiatives from conception to delivery, coordinating with multiple engineering teams, product managers, and collaborators to define requirements, establish timelines, and ensure successful adoption.
- Partner with security and risk stakeholders to implement secure-by-default controls (identity/access, secrets management, auditability) aligned with DRW’s trading and operational requirements.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance; raise engineering quality and shared ownership across teams.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or SRE responsibilities.
- Strong experience building and operating distributed systems in Linux environments; comfortable troubleshooting performance, networking, and reliability issues.
- Experience with cloud platforms and hybrid/on-prem architectures; ability to design for scale, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Proven track record owning production services: on-call, incident response, post-mortems, and durable reliability improvements.
- Experience implementing CI/CD, automated testing, and release engineering practices for platform and infrastructure code.
- Strong system design skills and the ability to lead technical decisions across teams.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills in fast-paced, high-availability environments.
COMPENSATION
- The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $250,000 depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, DRW offers a comprehensive suite of employee benefits including group medical, pharmacy, dental and vision insurance, 401k (with discretionary employer match), short and long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance, health savings accounts, and flexible spending accounts.

Platform Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a platform engineer in New York?
Platform engineering in New York has no state-issued license or board exam, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology. Candidates who build practical experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and automation tooling and earn vendor certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Certified Kubernetes Administrator are consistently more competitive in the New York market.
Which companies hire platform engineers in New York?
Employers hiring platform engineers in New York right now include New York Life, Google, and Anthropic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's deep concentration of financial institutions, media companies, and enterprise technology firms means platform engineering demand is especially consistent in sectors that run large-scale, high-availability infrastructure year-round.
Which New York cities have the most platform engineer jobs?
The cities with the most platform engineer openings in New York are New York, New York City, and Buffalo. New York City dominates the distribution because it is home to the country's largest financial services cluster, major media and advertising companies, and the regional headquarters of global technology consultancies, while Albany and Buffalo contribute demand through state government IT modernization programs and regional enterprise employers.
Are there remote platform engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. Platform engineering is a fundamentally desk-based discipline focused on code, configuration, and cloud consoles, which makes it well suited to distributed work. About 47% of platform engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly New York employers have adopted flexible arrangements for infrastructure and DevOps roles. Pipeline automation and cloud provisioning work tends to be the most remote-eligible, while on-call incident response roles often require proximity to a metro office.
How can I get hired as a platform engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior site reliability engineer or DevOps associate role, where several large New York employers run structured new-graduate programs. JPMorgan Chase and Verizon operate technology analyst rotations that place early-career engineers on infrastructure and platform teams. Candidates moving from adjacent roles such as systems administrator, QA automation engineer, or cloud support analyst find the transition manageable when they can show hands-on work with containers or CI/CD tools, even through personal projects or open-source contributions.
Where can I find and apply to platform engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to platform engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
