Frontend Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a frontend engineer in New York?
Frontend engineering has no state-issued license in New York, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skill. Most New York employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, though strong candidates also come through accredited coding bootcamps and self-directed portfolios. Building projects with React and TypeScript, contributing to open-source work, and completing internships at New York-area tech companies or startups are the concrete steps that move a resume from screening to interview.
How much do frontend engineers make in New York?
Frontend engineers in New York earn a median of about $166,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,430 for the lowest 10% to over $224,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire frontend engineers in New York?
Employers hiring frontend engineers in New York right now include Rippling, Rockstar Games, and GlossGenius, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of financial services firms, media companies, and advertising technology platforms means frontend roles here often emphasize data visualization, real-time interfaces, and high-traffic consumer products.
Which New York cities have the most frontend engineer jobs?
New York, Manhattan, and Marcy have the most frontend engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates because it is home to the country's largest cluster of fintech, media, and adtech employers, while Buffalo and Albany reflect growing regional investment in state government technology initiatives and university-anchored startup ecosystems that have expanded hiring in those markets.
Are there remote frontend engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 29% of frontend engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fundamentally desk-based and collaborative-tooling-driven nature of the work. The roles most likely to stay fully remote are individual contributor positions at product companies, while staff-level and design-system roles more often require hybrid presence in New York City offices.
How can I get hired as a frontend engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a strong portfolio of deployed projects built with React and TypeScript that solves a real problem a hiring manager recognizes. Large New York employers like JPMorgan Chase and Bloomberg run associate software engineer and new-grad rotational programs that actively recruit candidates without professional experience. Adjacent roles such as QA engineer, technical support analyst, or UI designer at a New York agency or startup also open doors, and completing a recognized bootcamp with a New York job-placement network adds practical credibility when a degree is absent.
Where can I find and apply to frontend engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to frontend engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated in real time. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your experience and preferred location or work arrangement, and apply directly from each posting without creating an account or signing up.
