Frontend Engineer Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a frontend engineer in Pennsylvania?
Frontend engineering in Pennsylvania has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most employers in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh look for a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though coding bootcamp graduates with strong portfolios are regularly hired. Earning widely recognized credentials such as AWS Certified Developer or a Google UX certification strengthens applications, and contributing to open-source projects or completing internships at Pennsylvania-based tech firms gives new candidates a concrete edge.
How much do frontend engineers make in Pennsylvania?
Frontend engineers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $126,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,750 for the lowest 10% to over $178,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire frontend engineers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring frontend engineers in Pennsylvania right now include Acme Markets, Giant Eagle, and Walmart, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's mix of major media, healthcare, and enterprise software companies means frontend roles here tend to require experience with large-scale consumer-facing or regulated industry applications.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most frontend engineer jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Butler account for the largest share of frontend engineer openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its dense concentration of fintech firms, health systems, and media companies like Comcast, while Pittsburgh draws heavily from its university-linked technology sector and the regional offices of national enterprise software firms that have established engineering hubs there.
Are there remote frontend engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. Frontend engineering is inherently screen-based work, making it well-suited to remote arrangements. About 33% of frontend engineer openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the broader tech industry norm. UI development, component library work, and design-system maintenance are the areas most commonly offered as fully remote positions by Pennsylvania employers.
How can I get hired as a frontend engineer in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic starting point is an internship or a junior developer apprenticeship at one of Pennsylvania's larger employers. Comcast and Independence Blue Cross run structured early-career technology programs in Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh's UPMC and Carnegie Mellon's affiliated spinouts regularly bring on associate engineers in support or quality-assurance roles that transition into frontend work. Candidates coming from adjacent positions like UI/UX design, technical writing, or QA testing have a natural bridge. A portfolio of deployed projects with accessible, responsive interfaces carries more weight than credentials alone.
Where can I find and apply to frontend engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to frontend engineer jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly through each listing. No profile creation is required to search and apply.
