IT Security Analyst Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it security analyst in Iowa?
Iowa does not require a state-issued license to work as an it security analyst, so the path runs through education and vendor-neutral certifications. Most Iowa employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information technology. Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker, or CISSP carry significant weight in hiring decisions, particularly at financial institutions and healthcare networks that must meet strict federal compliance standards.
How much do IT security analysts make in Iowa?
IT security analysts in Iowa earn a median of about $119,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $71,550 for the lowest 10% to over $169,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it security analysts in Iowa?
Employers hiring it security analysts in Iowa right now include Bitco Insurance Companies, Casey's, and Collabera, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's concentration of insurance headquarters, regional banks, and large healthcare systems creates consistent year-round demand for analysts with compliance and threat-monitoring backgrounds.
Which Iowa cities have the most it security analyst jobs?
Davenport, Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids have the most it security analyst openings in Iowa. Des Moines drives the largest share of listings because it anchors Iowa's insurance and financial services industry, while Cedar Rapids draws demand from manufacturing technology firms and regional healthcare networks, and Davenport benefits from its position in the Quad Cities corridor with cross-border employers operating on both the Iowa and Illinois sides.
Are there remote it security analyst jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 29% of it security analyst openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the core work, log analysis, threat monitoring, policy review, and compliance documentation, can be done entirely online. Roles that require hands-on access to on-premise hardware or physical security hardware tend to remain on-site, while SOC analyst and risk advisory positions are the most commonly offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a it security analyst in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a help desk or IT support role at a large Iowa employer, which provides direct exposure to the network and security tools analysts use daily. Principal Financial Group, UnityPoint Health, and state government agencies in Des Moines regularly hire associate IT technicians and junior SOC analysts with no prior security title. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying, or completing a cybersecurity certificate through Kirkwood Community College or Iowa State University's continuing education programs, gives candidates a measurable edge over other applicants with similar work histories.
Where can I find and apply to it security analyst jobs in Iowa?
