Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as an Assistant Property Manager
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Pull up the O*NET profile for Property, Real Estate, and Community Association Managers to identify the core competencies and education benchmarks your DS-2019 training plan must reflect. Gaps between your transcript and that profile can delay sponsor approval.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee eligibility before applying
The J-1 Intern category requires current enrollment in a degree program, while Trainee requires a degree plus one year of related work experience or five years of professional experience. Applying under the wrong category forces a restart with your designated sponsor.
Search verified host employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Assistant Property Manager roles by employers who have a documented record of hosting J-1 exchange visitors. This cuts time spent on outreach to companies unfamiliar with the DS-2019 host agreement process.
Confirm the host employer will sign a training plan
Before accepting any offer, verify that the property management company is willing to complete a formal Training or Internship Placement Plan with your designated sponsor. Without a signed plan, your sponsor cannot issue the DS-2019, regardless of the job offer.
Check the 2-year home residency requirement early
If your J-1 program is government-funded or your home country lists your occupation on the Exchange Visitor Skills List, a two-year home residency requirement may apply after your program ends. Confirm this with your designated sponsor before committing to a host placement.
Time your application around the 30-day program start window
J-1 regulations require you to enter the United States no more than 30 days before your DS-2019 program start date. Negotiate your host employer start date with this window in mind so your arrival, onboarding, and visa validity all align without a gap.

Find Assistant Property Manager JobsAssistant Property Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits an Assistant Property Manager role?
The J-1 Trainee category fits most early-career Assistant Property Manager applicants who hold a degree in real estate, business, or a related field plus at least one year of relevant work experience. Current students pursuing a property management or business degree may qualify under the J-1 Intern category instead. Your designated sponsor, not your host employer, determines which category applies based on your background.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa in a property management placement?
A U.S. Department of State-designated sponsor organization, such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT, issues your DS-2019 form and holds legal responsibility for your J-1 program. The property management company that hires you is the host employer, not the visa sponsor. The host must sign a training plan and agree to program conditions, but the designated sponsor administers the visa.
How do I find Assistant Property Manager roles that are open to J-1 exchange visitors?
Search for Assistant Property Manager positions on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles from employers with a documented history of hosting J-1 exchange visitors. Most property management companies do not advertise J-1 host arrangements in standard job listings, so filtering by sponsorship compatibility before applying saves significant time and avoids dead-end outreach.
Can the 2-year home residency requirement affect a property management J-1?
It can. If your home country's government funded your exchange program or lists property management occupations on its Exchange Visitor Skills List, you may be required to return home for two years before applying for an H-1B, L-1, or immigrant visa. Confirm whether this requirement applies to you with your designated sponsor before finalizing your host placement or long-term career plans in the United States.
What documents does a host property management company need to provide?
The host employer must complete a Training or Internship Placement Plan detailing your role, objectives, supervision structure, and working hours. This form is submitted to your designated sponsor, who reviews it before issuing the DS-2019. Some sponsors also require proof of the host company's insurance coverage and a signed host agreement. Your designated sponsor provides the exact checklist once you have a confirmed offer.
