Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship in Director Of Delivery
Frame your portfolio around U.S. delivery frameworks
Translate your delivery credentials into terms U.S. host employers recognize. Highlight Agile, SAFe, or PMBOK methodology experience and tie each project outcome to measurable KPIs. Vague international credentials slow down DS-2019 approvals.
Identify hosts with structured training plan capacity
J-1 Trainee and Specialist placements require a signed Training Plan from the host. Target organizations with dedicated HR or L&D functions. Smaller employers often can't generate the documentation a designated sponsor needs to issue your DS-2019.
Search for J-1 compatible Director roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter U.S. employer listings by J-1 sponsorship alignment. It surfaces host companies already familiar with the DS-2019 process, so you're not educating a recruiter on J-1 mechanics during the first interview.
Clarify the two-year home residency rule early
If your DS-2019 is funded by a government or international organization, or your home country is on the Exchange Visitor Skills List, you may face a two-year return requirement before switching to another visa status. Confirm this with your designated sponsor before accepting an offer.
Align your offer letter to Specialist category criteria
If you have at least five years of specialized delivery experience, the J-1 Specialist category may fit better than Trainee. Ask your designated sponsor to confirm category eligibility before the host drafts your offer letter, since mismatches delay issuance.
Verify the host's willingness to sign compliance documents
The host employer must countersign your Training Plan and cooperate with the designated sponsor's monitoring requirements throughout your program. Confirm this obligation with the hiring manager before your formal offer, not after.

Find Director Of Delivery JobsDirector Of Delivery J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Director of Delivery role?
Most Director of Delivery candidates qualify under the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Trainee applies if you're within a year of graduating or have fewer than five years of post-degree experience. Specialist applies if you have substantial specialized experience in project delivery, operations, or program management and aren't pursuing a degree.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for this type of role?
The visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization such as CIEE, Cultural Vistas, or IIE. The hiring company is the host employer, not the sponsor. The designated sponsor issues your DS-2019, administers the training plan, and monitors compliance. The host employer signs supporting documents but does not hold sponsorship authority.
How do I find host employers open to J-1 Trainee or Specialist placements in delivery leadership?
Migrate Mate lets you search U.S. employer listings filtered for J-1 sponsorship compatibility. Because Director of Delivery is a senior-track role, focus on mid-to-large organizations with established HR infrastructure. Those employers are more likely to have navigated DS-2019 training plan requirements before and can move through the process without delays.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to delivery professionals?
It depends on your funding source and whether your home country lists your occupation on the Exchange Visitor Skills List. If your exchange program is financed by your home government or a U.S. government agency, the two-year requirement almost certainly applies. Confirm your status with the designated sponsor before accepting an offer, since this requirement blocks H-1B and green card transitions until it's fulfilled or waived.
What documentation does the host employer need to provide for my J-1 application?
The host employer must co-sign a detailed Training Plan that outlines your objectives, the skills you'll develop, supervision structure, and program duration. They also need to confirm that the placement doesn't displace a U.S. worker and that adequate supervision is in place. The designated sponsor reviews these documents before issuing the DS-2019, so gaps in the training plan are the most common source of delays.
