Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Delivery Manager
Align your DS-2019 category early
Delivery Manager roles typically qualify under the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Confirm which applies to your experience level before approaching host employers, since your designated sponsor must approve the category before issuing your DS-2019.
Document your program management credentials
Designated sponsors require a detailed training plan tied to your professional background. Gather certifications, project records, and employer references that demonstrate structured delivery experience, so your host employer can complete the training plan accurately.
Target host employers with existing J-1 infrastructure
Search Migrate Mate to find Delivery Manager roles at U.S. companies already familiar with hosting J-1 exchange visitors. Employers who have hosted before understand the DS-2019 process and can coordinate with a designated sponsor without delays.
Clarify the two-year home residency rule upfront
If your home country appears on the Exchange Visitor Skills List, you may face a two-year residency requirement after your J-1 program ends. Raise this with your designated sponsor before signing any training agreement, since it affects your future visa options.
Verify wage compliance with the OFLC Wage Search
Your host employer's offer must meet prevailing wage standards for the Delivery Manager role in their location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the applicable wage level before your training plan is submitted to your designated sponsor for approval.
Negotiate the training plan scope with your host employer
J-1 programs require a structured, time-bound training plan. Work with your host employer to define specific delivery management competencies, project phases, and evaluation milestones that satisfy designated sponsor requirements and reflect genuine skill development.

Find Delivery Manager JobsDelivery Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Delivery Manager role?
Most Delivery Manager positions fall under the J-1 Trainee category if you have a degree plus at least one year of relevant experience, or if you have five or more years of work experience in your field. The Specialist category applies to recognized experts in a narrow discipline. Your designated sponsor, not your host employer, determines which category is appropriate based on your background and the training plan submitted.
Who actually sponsors a J-1 visa for a Delivery Manager position?
The J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas, AIPT, or IIE, not the hiring company. The hiring company is your host employer. The designated sponsor reviews your training plan, issues the DS-2019 form, and monitors your program compliance. Your host employer facilitates the placement but does not hold sponsoring authority under Department of State regulations.
How do I find host employers open to J-1 Delivery Manager placements?
Search Migrate Mate to identify U.S. employers advertising Delivery Manager roles with J-1 compatibility. Host employers who have worked with designated sponsors previously are significantly easier to work with because they understand training plan requirements and program timelines. Targeting those employers reduces the risk of a host declining after you reach the offer stage.
What does the training plan need to cover for a Delivery Manager J-1 program?
Your designated sponsor requires a structured Training and Internship Placement Plan, known as Form DS-7002, that outlines the specific project management and delivery skills you will develop, the phases and duration of training, supervision arrangements, and evaluation criteria. Generic job descriptions are not sufficient. The plan must demonstrate genuine skill development beyond what you already possess and must align with your stated professional background.
Does the two-year home residency requirement affect Delivery Managers?
It can. If your home country is on the Department of State's Exchange Visitor Skills List or if your program is government-funded, you may be required to return home for two years after your J-1 status ends before you can apply for an H-1B, L-1, or immigrant visa. Confirm your country's status and any funding conditions with your designated sponsor before you finalize your training agreement, since this requirement is difficult to waive.
