Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Patient Services Manager
Align your credentials with Trainee eligibility
The J-1 Trainee category requires either a degree plus one year of relevant experience, or five years of work experience in healthcare administration. Gather transcripts, employment letters, and role descriptions before approaching any host employer.
Target host employers with structured training programs
Large hospital networks and integrated health systems are more likely to have the HR infrastructure to partner with a designated sponsor and develop the formal training plan the DS-2019 requires. Outpatient or solo-practice settings rarely carry that capacity.
Search roles on Migrate Mate to find J-1-compatible positions
Use Migrate Mate to filter Patient Services Manager openings by employers familiar with exchange visitor sponsorship. Targeting hosts with prior J-1 or exchange program experience shortens the time between offer and DS-2019 issuance significantly.
Clarify the two-year home residency rule early
Certain J-1 participants funded by their home government or working in fields on the Exchange Visitor Skills List must return home for two years after the program ends. Confirm your country's status with your designated sponsor before accepting a host offer.
Secure a completed training plan before your sponsor submits
Designated sponsors such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT require a signed Training or Internship Placement Plan from the host employer before issuing the DS-2019. Work with your host's HR team to complete this document with specific patient services competencies and measurable goals.
Verify your host employer's E-Verify enrollment status
Some designated sponsors require host employers to be enrolled in E-Verify as a condition of the J-1 placement agreement. Confirm enrollment before the training plan is finalized to avoid delays in the sponsor's compliance review.

Find Patient Services Manager JobsPatient Services Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category applies to Patient Services Manager roles?
Most Patient Services Manager candidates qualify under the J-1 Trainee category, which covers professionals in healthcare administration seeking structured U.S. work-based training. If your role involves policy research or program evaluation at an academic medical center, the Specialist category may apply instead. Your designated sponsor will determine the correct category based on your background and the host employer's training plan.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for this role, the hospital or an outside organization?
The hospital or clinic is the host employer, not the visa sponsor. The J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas, AIPT, or IIE, that reviews your qualifications, approves the training plan, and issues the DS-2019 form. The host employer agrees to provide the training environment but does not hold the designation to sponsor J-1 exchange visitors directly.
How do I find Patient Services Manager positions where the host employer is open to J-1 placements?
Search on Migrate Mate, which surfaces Patient Services Manager roles at U.S. employers that have demonstrated familiarity with exchange visitor sponsorship requirements. Targeting employers with prior J-1 hosting experience reduces the time spent educating HR teams about training plan requirements, sponsor agreements, and DS-2019 logistics.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to Patient Services Managers?
It depends on your country of nationality, your source of funding, and whether your home country lists healthcare administration on its Exchange Visitor Skills List. Participants funded by their home government or an international organization, or whose nationality appears on the Skills List, are subject to the requirement. Your designated sponsor will assess your situation before issuing the DS-2019 and can clarify whether a waiver path exists.
What does the training plan for a Patient Services Manager J-1 program need to include?
The Training or Internship Placement Plan, known as the DS-7002 form, must outline specific competencies the trainee will develop, the methods of supervision, and measurable performance goals tied to patient services operations. For a Patient Services Manager role, this typically covers workflow management, patient communication protocols, staff coordination, and healthcare compliance procedures. Your designated sponsor and host employer complete this form together before the DS-2019 is issued.
