Java Developer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a java developer in Florida?
Florida does not require a state-issued license to work as a java developer. The typical path starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering, though employers at Florida's major tech hubs also hire candidates with associate degrees paired with strong portfolios or bootcamp credentials. Building demonstrable Java projects, earning Oracle's Java SE certification, and applying to internship pipelines at Florida defense contractors and healthtech firms accelerates the transition into a first role.
How much do java developers make in Florida?
Java developers in Florida earn a median of about $93,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,810 for the lowest 10% to over $138,770 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire java developers in Florida?
Employers hiring java developers in Florida right now include Citi, Information Technology Senior Management Forum, and Infosys, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's concentration of defense contractors near Orlando and fintech firms in Tampa and Miami means java roles frequently appear at large, well-established organizations with long-term engineering teams.
Which Florida cities have the most java developer jobs?
Tampa, Jacksonville, and Orlando lead Florida for java developer openings. Miami drives volume through its dense fintech and enterprise software sector, Tampa's Raymond James, tech consultancies, and healthcare IT firms fuel steady demand, and Orlando's defense and simulation industry anchors hiring in that corridor, with suburban technology parks like Lake Mary and Maitland adding to the count.
Are there remote java developer jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 44% of java developer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based, code-driven nature of the work. Backend and API development roles tend to be the most consistently remote, while positions requiring proximity to defense facilities or on-site collaboration with product teams more often list hybrid or fully on-site schedules.
How can I get hired as a java developer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a junior or associate software engineer role through Florida-based internship and new-grad pipelines. Large Florida employers including Lockheed Martin in Orlando and tech-forward healthcare systems across Tampa and Miami run structured early-career programs for candidates without professional experience. Adjacent roles such as QA engineer or technical support analyst at Florida software companies are a common lateral entry point, and a portfolio of personal or open-source Java projects, combined with the Oracle Certified Associate credential, gives candidates a concrete edge in screening.
Where can I find and apply to java developer jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to java developer jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one without needing to create a profile or sign up.
