Department Information
Within this setting, the Department of Curriculum, Foundations, and Reading, one of four departments within the College of Education, includes 27 full-time faculty members in five areas: educational foundations, educational psychology, curriculum studies, literacy studies/reading education, and educational research. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate-level courses and multiple graduate programs, including a master’s degree and an educational specialist’s degree in reading education, and a doctoral degree in curriculum studies. The current Educational Psychology faculty members provide comprehensive support for the college’s undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching and mentoring. The individual hired in this position is expected to contribute to the college’s goal of continued excellence and innovation in teaching at the undergraduate level.
Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the Visiting Instructor of Education will teach undergraduate courses in general education in face-to-face and online formats, with content related to the science of reading. The teaching load for this position will be 15 credit hours per semester during the fall and spring semesters (5 courses each semester). Travel between campus locations (Swainsboro and Statesboro) may be necessary. The Visiting Instructor will also be expected to hold regular face-to-face office hours and participate in departmental meetings and on campus activities. Collegiality is essential. This is an academic year/Fall Semester/Spring Semester appointment for the months of August 2026 - May 2027. All visiting positions are one-year, non-tenure track appointments.
Required Qualifications
- Earned Master's degree (or higher) in Education or closely related field with at least eighteen graduate-level semester credit hours in education by August 1, 2026.
- Minimum three years of experience as a full-time teacher in a K-12 setting.
- Ability and willingness to teach face-to-face undergraduate courses offered Monday through Thursday.
- Willingness to teach online courses.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate courses and/or professional development in reading, literacy education, and/or the science of reading (e.g., LETRS).
- Successful college teaching experience is desirable.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
