K 12 Education Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a k 12 education in California?
You earn a California teaching credential through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, which requires completing an approved teacher preparation program, passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test and the appropriate CSET subject matter exam, and fulfilling a student teaching requirement. Most roles also require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Special education and bilingual authorization pathways have additional subject-specific requirements administered through the same credentialing body.
Which companies hire k 12 educations in California?
Employers hiring k 12 educations in California right now include The Tutoring Agency, SVS, and Tutor Doctor, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's sheer size means both large unified districts and smaller charter management organizations post consistently throughout the year, particularly ahead of the fall and spring semesters.
Which California cities have the most k 12 education jobs?
Burbank, Tarzana, and San Marino have the most k 12 education openings in California. Los Angeles dominates by volume due to the size of LA Unified alone, while San Diego and Sacramento reflect strong suburban district growth and state agency concentration that together support a significant share of the statewide hiring outside the greater LA area.
Are there remote k 12 education jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of k 12 education openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the hands-on, in-person nature of most classroom and student-support roles. The positions most likely to be fully remote are curriculum development specialists, online or independent study program teachers, and certain district-level instructional coaching roles.
How can I get hired as a k 12 education in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a position as a paraeducator or instructional aide within a California unified school district, which allows you to work directly with students while completing your credential program. Large districts including Los Angeles Unified and Oakland Unified run formal grow-your-own programs that fund credentialing for current classified staff. Substitute teaching authorization, available through county offices of education across California, is another door that frequently leads to long-term openings.
