Laboratory Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a laboratory job in Philadelphia?
Focus your search on University City, where major academic medical centers and research institutions cluster, and on the Navy Yard and Pennovation Works, which house a growing concentration of biotech and pharmaceutical employers. Candidates who have hands-on experience with instrumentation relevant to clinical or life sciences settings stand out. Tailoring your application to the specific sector, whether diagnostics, drug development, or environmental testing, gives you a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire laboratorys in Philadelphia?
Companies currently hiring laboratorys in Philadelphia include Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Philadelphia's hiring base is particularly strong among academic health systems, specialty pharmaceutical firms, and independent clinical reference labs serving the region's dense hospital network.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though options are limited since most laboratory roles require physical presence to handle specimens, equipment, or controlled materials. About 50% of laboratory openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, skewing toward data analysis, regulatory affairs, or laboratory informatics roles rather than bench work. In Philadelphia, those remote opportunities tend to sit within larger pharmaceutical and health system employers.
How can I get a laboratory job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is through laboratory assistant or specimen processing roles at the city's major health systems and independent reference labs, which regularly hire candidates without full technician credentials. Community college clinical programs with local externship placements in Philadelphia also create direct pipelines into entry-level positions. Volunteering or interning at University City research institutions builds the hands-on exposure that local employers look for when reviewing early-career candidates.
Which industries hire the most laboratorys in Philadelphia?
Most laboratory openings in Philadelphia sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Philadelphia's position as a regional healthcare hub and a growing center for cell and gene therapy research drives sustained hiring across clinical, academic, and commercial laboratory settings throughout the city.
