Position Information: The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate and timely results in support of clinical or operational needs. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and effective collaboration with laboratory and clinical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect, organize, and prepare toxicology samples.
- Perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and LC-MS/MS workflows.
- Track lab workflow in the LIS to meet turnaround goals.
- Maintain inventory, prepare reagents, and support quality control.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA and CAP standards.
- Communicate with supervisors on workflow, data, and regulatory matters.
Supervisory Responsibilities [if applicable]: None.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- CPR Certification (can be obtained with employer)
- Previous laboratory experience preferred; training may be provided for entry-level candidates.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and quality control practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills and experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- Work is performed in a laboratory setting with strict safety and confidentiality requirements.
- Schedule will be Monday – Friday with potential for some Saturday coverage.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle laboratory instruments and specimens.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds.
- Compliance with PPE requirements and exposure to biological or chemical materials.
