Laboratory Technician Jobs in Houston, TX

1.Job Summary

Responsible for conducting laboratory and field testing of construction materials, including soil, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt, to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing

• Perform soil classification, moisture content, sieve analysis, and Atterberg Limits tests.
• Conduct Standard and Modified Proctor and CBR tests.
• Perform aggregate gradation and specific gravity tests.
• Conduct concrete compressive strength testing.
• Prepare samples, record results, and prepare laboratory reports.

Field Testing and Inspection

• Perform soil density and compaction testing.
• Conduct concrete slump, temperature, air content, and sampling tests.
• Collect and prepare concrete cylinders.
• Perform field sampling and testing of aggregates and asphalt.
• Monitor construction activities and inspect materials for compliance with project specifications.
• Prepare daily field testing and inspection reports.

Quality Control and Safety

• Identify and report nonconforming test results.
• Maintain testing equipment and calibration records.
• Follow approved testing procedures and laboratory/site safety requirements.
• Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting.

3. Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or a related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of laboratory or field testing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI testing standards.
• Basic computer and technical reporting skills.

4. Preferred Certifications

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I.
• NICET Construction Materials Testing.
• Nuclear Density Gauge and Radiation Safety Training.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety.

5. Required Skills

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
