Postdoctoral Research Associate Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a postdoctoral research associate in Texas?
Becoming a postdoctoral research associate in Texas requires a completed doctoral degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution. There is no state-issued license specific to postdoctoral research in Texas. Candidates apply directly to principal investigators or research offices at Texas universities, academic medical centers, and national laboratories, submitting a CV, research statement, and writing samples. Positions are typically posted on institutional websites and discipline-specific databases.
Which companies hire postdoctoral research associates in Texas?
Employers hiring postdoctoral research associates in Texas right now include Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M University, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of research universities and nationally ranked cancer and medical centers means postdoctoral openings are distributed broadly across academic, nonprofit, and government research settings throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most postdoctoral research associate jobs?
Houston, College Station, and Denton have the most postdoctoral research associate openings in Texas. Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, while Dallas hiring is driven by UT Southwestern and several private biotech and pharmaceutical operations, and Austin's growth reflects its expanding university research enterprise and life sciences startup ecosystem.
Are there remote postdoctoral research associate jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Most postdoctoral research associate work is bench-based or tied to on-site equipment and lab teams, making fully remote appointments uncommon. About 0% of postdoctoral research associate openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in computational biology, bioinformatics, and data analysis roles where the work is entirely software-based.
How can I get hired as a postdoctoral research associate in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for candidates without prior postdoctoral experience is applying while finishing a doctoral program, since Texas institutions including MD Anderson, UT Southwestern, and Rice University actively recruit advanced PhD candidates before degree conferral. Many principal investigators consider strong dissertation work and a first-author manuscript in preparation equivalent to postdoctoral experience. Applying to training grants and institutional postdoctoral fellowship programs at Texas research universities also opens doors for candidates transitioning from adjacent roles such as research scientist or laboratory manager.
Where can I find and apply to postdoctoral research associate jobs in Texas?
