About the Role
CyberLynk is looking for a Linux System Administrator to help run and support the Linux infrastructure behind our hosting, cloud, and virtualization services. You will help administer our shared, reseller, VPS, and dedicated servers, keep core infrastructure such as DNS resolvers and authoritative DNS servers healthy and secure, and act as a technical support resource for our hosting customers. You will also occasionally support our VoIP systems and hosted Macs as needed. You will work alongside a senior director for an extended transition period, giving you a long runway to learn the environment before taking full ownership of your piece of it.
What You Will Do
- Administer and maintain shared, reseller, VPS, and dedicated cPanel/WHM servers, including provisioning, configuration, patching, and upgrades
- Provide technical support for hosting customers, resolving issues across DNS, mail delivery and reputation, SSL/TLS, and web application performance.
- Manage and maintain core Linux infrastructure, including DNS resolvers and authoritative DNS servers (BIND/PowerDNS)
- Monitor server health, respond to alerts, and resolve performance, availability, and capacity issues
- Harden and secure servers using CloudLinux, Imunify360, and KernelCare, and respond to abuse and security incidents such as malware and compromised accounts
- Manage backups and disaster recovery processes, and perform data restorations for customers
- Administer KVM-based virtualization hosts supporting VPS customers
- Perform server migrations and account transfers between servers
- Document systems, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
- Help evaluate, test, and pilot new and adjacent services as customer needs evolve, from proof of concept through production rollout.
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation for after-hours coverage approximately every 8-12 weeks
Required Qualifications
- 1-3+ years of professional Linux system administration experience with Debian-family distributions (Debian, Ubuntu), and familiarity with RHEL-family distributions (AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS).
- Working knowledge of DNS concepts and experience managing DNS servers (BIND, PowerDNS, or similar)
- Experience with the standard web hosting stack: Apache/LiteSpeed/NGINX, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, Exim or similar MTAs
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, firewalls, and SSL/TLS
- Strong customer service skills and clear written and verbal communication; comfortable working directly with customers
- Ability to work onsite in the Milwaukee, WI metro area
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering servers in a web hosting environment
- Experience with CloudLinux, Imunify360, and KernelCare
- Experience with KVM or other virtualization platforms
- Shell scripting (Bash) or basic Python for task automation
- Experience in a web hosting, ISP, or MSP environment
- Red Hat certification (RHCSA or RHCE), cPanel University certifications, or comparable credentials (preferred, not required)
Schedule and On-Call
This is a full-time, first-shift position. Scheduled maintenance and occasional after-hours work are part of the job, and we offer flex time to balance it. The position also participates in a shared on-call rotation with other team members, covering one week approximately every 8 to 12 weeks, to handle after-hours coverage for critical infrastructure and customer emergencies.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $65,000 to $85,000 per year, based on experience.
