Machine Builder Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a machine builder in Texas?
Most machine builders in Texas enter the field through a vocational or technical program at a community college such as Houston Community College or Austin Community College, earning a certificate in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or machine tool technology. Texas does not require a state license specifically for machine builders, but employers strongly prefer candidates who hold a NIMS credential or a relevant OSHA safety certification. Completing an apprenticeship through a Texas manufacturing employer is another well-established path.
Which companies hire machine builders in Texas?
Employers hiring machine builders in Texas right now include Builders FirstSource, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of oil and gas equipment manufacturers, aerospace contractors, and heavy industrial firms means ongoing demand from large, established production facilities across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most machine builder jobs?
Arlington, Dallas, and Duncanville account for the most machine builder openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of oil and gas equipment manufacturers and petrochemical plant contractors, while San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth draw consistent demand from aerospace and defense suppliers, food processing equipment makers, and automotive parts producers headquartered in those corridors.
Are there remote machine builder jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Machine building is a hands-on trade that requires physical assembly, calibration, and testing on the shop floor, so most roles are fully on-site. About 0% of machine builder openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in technical sales support, remote diagnostics, or equipment design roles where the hands-on component is minimal.
How can I get hired as a machine builder in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an assembly technician or production associate role at a Texas manufacturing facility, where hands-on training happens on the job. Large employers such as Caterpillar's San Antonio operations and Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth campus run structured onboarding programs for candidates without direct machine building experience. Completing a mechatronics or industrial maintenance certificate at a Texas community college and earning a NIMS Level 1 credential gives candidates a clear edge over applicants with no formal training.
Where can I find and apply to machine builder jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to machine builder jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your skills and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
