- Experience with Python, MATLAB, C++, or comparable programming languages.
- Experience with NumPy, pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar scientific-computing and machine-learning libraries.
- Familiarity with CFD, CAE, CAD, meshing, visualization, Linux, high-performance computing, or engineering software workflows.
- Experience developing or applying machine-learning models to scientific, engineering, physical-simulation, or time-series data.
- Familiarity with surrogate modeling, physics-informed machine learning, graph neural networks, neural operators, transfer learning, uncertainty quantification, or model explainability.
- Experience with design-of-experiments, parameter studies, optimization, or automated engineering workflows.
- Ability to evaluate data quality, identify modeling limitations, and distinguish physically meaningful results from numerical or data artifacts.
- Experience communicating technical results through reports, presentations, plots, code documentation, or demonstrations.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with researchers and cross-functional engineering teams.

Machine Learning Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a machine learning manager in Michigan?
Most machine learning manager roles in Michigan require a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or engineering, with a master's degree preferred at larger employers like automotive OEMs and health insurers. There is no state-issued license for this role in Michigan. Candidates typically progress from individual contributor ML engineer or senior data scientist positions, build a portfolio of deployed models, and move into management through internal promotion or by targeting companies in Michigan's automotive, defense, and healthcare technology sectors.
Which companies hire machine learning managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring machine learning managers in Michigan right now include General Motors (GM), Lucid Motors, and May Mobility, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Michigan's automotive sector, particularly companies tied to vehicle electrification and autonomous systems in the greater Detroit corridor, generates some of the most consistent demand for this role.
Which Michigan cities have the most machine learning manager jobs?
Ann Arbor, Warren, and Detroit are the Michigan cities with the most machine learning manager openings. Detroit and its surrounding suburbs concentrate demand because of the automotive and mobility technology industries headquartered there, while Ann Arbor draws heavily from University of Michigan spinouts, health systems, and a dense cluster of AI-focused startups and research labs.
Are there remote machine learning manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than many technical management roles, since machine learning work is largely code- and data-driven rather than on-site. About 20% of machine learning manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting broad adoption of distributed engineering teams. The most remote-compatible work tends to involve model research and development, while roles tied to automotive hardware integration or on-premises data infrastructure lean more toward in-person or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a machine learning manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving laterally from a senior data scientist, ML engineer, or analytics engineer role into a team lead or manager title, often at a mid-size Michigan tech or health-tech company that needs to build out its first ML function. Ford and General Motors both run rotational data science programs for early-career candidates, and Michigan Medicine and Henry Ford Health offer structured analytics fellowships that can feed into leadership tracks. Building a public portfolio of end-to-end model projects and contributing to open-source ML tooling strengthens any application without prior manager titles.
Where can I find and apply to machine learning manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to machine learning manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Michigan employers. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
