As Steeler continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our Seattle team and support our multi-state, multi-branch operations.

Position Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant will play an important role in Steeler’s accounting operations, including general ledger management, month-end and year-end as well as account reconciliations.

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional who understands the full accounting cycle, works accurately with complex financial information, and enjoys identifying opportunities to improve processes. This position will work closely with the controller and branch teams to ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and prepared in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage assigned functions throughout the full accounting cycle.
• Prepare and post accurate journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual general-ledger account reconciliations.
• Support and help coordinate month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Review financial results and investigate unusual balances, variances, and trends.
• Maintain supporting schedules for balance-sheet and income-statement accounts.
• Assist with accounting activities for multiple branches and legal entities operating across several states.
• Review intercompany transactions and reconcile intercompany balances.
• Ensure transactions are recorded consistently across branches, departments, and accounting periods.
• Assist with cash management, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, inventory accounting, and other general-ledger functions.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit, payroll, and operational accounting activities as needed.
• Prepare documentation and schedules for external audits, tax filings, insurance reviews, and other financial examinations.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve reporting, and strengthen internal controls.
• Assist with implementing accounting-system enhancements and standardized procedures across company locations.
• Provide accounting guidance and support to branch managers and other departments.
• Review work prepared by other accounting team members and provide training or mentorship when needed.
• Participate in special projects and provide financial analysis to support management decisions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field or 8 years’ experience in the field of accounting.
• At least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle and general-ledger accounting.
• Demonstrated experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Experience preparing journal entries, financial schedules, and variance analyses.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, formulas, and data analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively and professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information appropriately.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting a multi-state or multi-branch organization.
• Accounting experience in manufacturing, construction, distribution, or building materials.
• Experience with inventory, job-cost, or cost-accounting processes.
• Experience working with enterprise resource planning or accounting software.
• Experience improving accounting procedures, reporting systems, or internal controls.
• Experience reviewing the work of others or mentoring accounting staff.

Leadership and Process Improvement

This position reports to the Controller and will be expected to demonstrate leadership within the accounting department by: Serving as a knowledgeable resource for accounting team members and branch personnel.

• Reviewing accounting processes and recommending practical improvements.
• Helping standardize procedures across branches and business units.
• Supporting the training and professional development of other accounting employees.
• Taking ownership of assigned projects and following them through completion.
• Promoting accuracy, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Compensation

• Annual salary range of $75,000.00 a year.
• Final compensation will be based on relevant accounting experience, education, certifications, technical knowledge, and overall qualifications.
• Performance-based bonus opportunities may be available.
