Medical Assistant Jobs in Kansas City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical assistant job in Kansas City?
The fastest path in Kansas City is targeting the city's large multispecialty groups and health system outpatient clinics, which hire medical assistants at higher volume than small independent practices. Concentrations of openings appear in the Country Club Plaza corridor, along the I-435 suburban ring in Overland Park and Lee's Summit, and inside hospital-adjacent medical office buildings near Research Medical Center and Overland Park Regional. Candidates with a certified clinical credential and experience with Epic or Athenahealth move through hiring faster in this market.
Which companies hire medical assistants in Kansas City?
Kansas City medical assistant roles are posted by Saint Luke's, University Health KC, and NKC Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is anchored by large integrated health systems and their affiliated outpatient networks, alongside independent urgent care chains and growing specialty group practices serving both the Missouri and Kansas sides of the metro.
Are there remote medical assistant jobs in Kansas City?
Yes, though remote work is uncommon for medical assistants given the hands-on nature of clinical duties. About 14% of medical assistant openings tied to Kansas City are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a small slice of telehealth support, prior authorization coordination, and chronic care management roles that do not require in-person patient contact. These positions are most common with larger health systems that have centralized administrative operations in the Kansas City metro.
How can I get a medical assistant job in Kansas City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Kansas City is through externship-to-hire pipelines at the metro's urgent care networks and community health centers, which regularly bring on recent graduates from programs at Penn Valley College and local vocational schools. Entry-level candidates who are phlebotomy-trained or hold a front-desk background at a medical office have a clear advantage, since many Kansas City employers will hire for a combined clinical and administrative role. Applying to high-volume clinics in Overland Park and the Northland broadens your options beyond the more competitive downtown postings.
Which industries hire the most medical assistants in Kansas City?
Most medical assistant openings in Kansas City sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas City's concentration of regional health system campuses, specialty group practices, and a growing network of freestanding urgent care and ambulatory surgery centers drives consistent demand across all of those sectors throughout the metro area.
