Medical Assistant Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical assistant in Nebraska?
Nebraska does not require a state license to work as a medical assistant, but most employers require completion of an accredited medical assistant program from a community college or vocational school. Earning a national credential such as the CMA through the AAMA, the RMA through AMT, or the CCMA through NHA makes candidates significantly more competitive. Many Nebraska health systems prioritize credentialed graduates when filling clinical positions.
How much do medical assistants make in Nebraska?
Medical assistants in Nebraska earn a median of about $47,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,940 for the lowest 10% to over $59,450 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire medical assistants in Nebraska?
Companies currently hiring medical assistants in Nebraska include Nebraska Medicine, Bryan Health, and OrthoNebraska, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Nebraska's large integrated health systems and multispecialty clinic networks account for the majority of consistent openings in the state.
Which Nebraska cities have the most medical assistant jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Auburn have the most medical assistant openings in Nebraska. Omaha leads due to its concentration of major health systems and specialty clinics, Lincoln follows as the state capital with a strong network of primary care and university-affiliated practices, and Grand Island serves as the regional hub for central Nebraska's outpatient and rural health facilities.
Are there remote medical assistant jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Medical assisting is fundamentally a hands-on clinical role requiring direct patient contact, so most positions are on-site. About 0% of medical assistant openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to involve telephone triage, prior authorization support, or care coordination duties that do not require in-person patient interaction.
How can I get hired as a medical assistant in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited medical assistant program at a Nebraska community college such as Metropolitan Community College in Omaha or Southeast Community College in Lincoln, both of which include externship placements with local employers. Large Nebraska health systems like Nebraska Medicine and Bryan Health regularly hire new graduates into entry-level clinical assistant and patient care technician roles. Candidates transitioning from front-desk medical receptionist or certified nursing assistant positions also find the move into medical assisting accessible, especially with an active national certification.
