Medical Laboratory Scientist Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical laboratory scientist job in Boston?
Focus your search on the Longwood Medical Area, where academic medical centers and affiliated hospitals cluster most of Boston's laboratory roles. Teaching hospitals, specialty clinics, and biotech research firms hire consistently. Candidates with ASCP certification and experience in high-complexity testing stand out in this market. Applying directly to hospital systems and reaching out to lab managers at research institutions gives you an edge over relying on general postings alone.
Which companies hire medical laboratory scientists in Boston?
Boston medical laboratory scientist roles are posted by Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and Mass General Brigham and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's hiring base includes large academic medical centers, independent reference laboratories, and life sciences companies conducting clinical research in areas like oncology and infectious disease.
Are there remote medical laboratory scientist jobs in Boston?
Yes, though hands-on bench work is inherently on-site, making fully remote roles uncommon for most medical laboratory scientist positions. About 0% of medical laboratory scientist openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, largely covering roles in laboratory informatics, quality assurance review, and regulatory affairs rather than direct specimen analysis.
How can I get a medical laboratory scientist job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is a clinical externship or phlebotomy role at one of the Longwood Medical Area hospital systems, which regularly onboard new graduates into entry-level laboratory assistant and specimen processing positions. Community health centers and independent reference labs in neighborhoods like Roxbury and Jamaica Plain also hire candidates who are newly certified. An ASCP certification in progress and hands-on coursework from an accredited program are the clearest differentiators for Boston employers at the entry level.
Which industries hire the most medical laboratory scientists in Boston?

Boston's concentration of world-renowned teaching hospitals and a dense biotech corridor along the Fenway and in the Seaport drives sustained demand well above the national average for this role.
