Senior Level Medical Physicist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level medical physicist job?
Employers hiring at this level look for demonstrated ownership of clinical programs, board certification, and a history of leading quality assurance initiatives or multidisciplinary projects. Candidates who stand out typically have subspecialty depth in areas like stereotactic radiosurgery or MR-guided radiotherapy, peer-reviewed contributions, and evidence of mentoring junior physicists or residents. Tailoring your application to the clinical volume and equipment portfolio of each site strengthens your candidacy.
Which companies hire senior level medical physicists?
Companies hiring senior level medical physicists right now include IHRC, Mayo Clinic, and Aspirus Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from large academic medical centers, regional health systems, and radiation oncology groups with high patient volumes and complex treatment programs.
Are there remote senior level medical physicist jobs?
Yes, though most senior roles remain predominantly on-site given the hands-on nature of clinical physics work. About 0% of senior level medical physicist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve treatment planning review, physics consulting, or dosimetry oversight rather than direct machine calibration or equipment commissioning.
What makes a medical physicist role senior level?
Senior level medical physicist roles are defined by independent clinical authority, not just task execution. At this stage, you own program-level decisions: commissioning new equipment, setting QA protocols, directing resident or student training, and serving as the primary physics resource for a radiation oncology team. The scope extends beyond individual patient plans to the systems and standards that govern how the entire department operates.
Which industries hire the most senior level medical physicists?
Senior Level medical physicist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Electronics & Hardware, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they operate the high-complexity radiation therapy programs, research protocols, and multi-site clinical networks that require experienced physics leadership rather than supervised staff.
