INTRODUCTION
Mental Health Technician - PT Days - 24 hrs/week - 7: 00 AM-7:30 PM - every other weekend
HAVENWYCK HOSPITAL (a UHS facility)
Havenwyck Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited and licensed psychiatric hospital, overlooking Lake Galloway in Auburn Hills, Michigan. We specialize in providing comprehensive, compassionate behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults. It is the ultimate goal of our dedicated staff to build strength, confidence, and knowledge within each patient, in hopes that they may continue learning and understanding their needs and practicing self-care for the rest of their lives.
Position Summary:
The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes: assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using the necessary intervention to de-escalate the patient appropriately. Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusions, delusions, and hallucinations. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse. Will also assist patients with activities of daily living and encourage independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis while providing care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort, and a therapeutic environment.
Duties and responsibilities, to include; but are not limited to:
- Follows instructions given by all nursing leadership and as outlined in Hospital policies and procedures
- Reports patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse
- Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusions, delusions, and hallucinations. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse
- Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort, and a therapeutic environment
- Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner and completes the appropriate documentation

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Prefer a minimum of two years of college in areas of psychology, social work, mental health, and other related health fields
- Experience in dealing with the emotionally disturbed preferred
- Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers
