Basic Job Functions:
The role of a Technical Services Metallurgist (Tech Rep) is to develop, maintain, and manage partnerships for Nucor with our customers. This position is based at the mill with travel to visit customer facilities to address claims, develop new products, and provide training. Tech Rep will establish, supervise, and evaluate process/product trials. Tech Reps respond to customer claims and provide customer service for development of new products or requirements. Works closely with Metallurgical Engineers in the mills and the sales department. Essential job functions include but are not limited to:
- Must be familiar with the customer products and end uses, grades, tolerances, standards, and customer requirements.
- Have knowledge of the mill process and products to determine if capability matches customers’ requirements and develop suitable products where necessary.
- Lead product performance investigations, determine root causes, and disposition of technical claims.
- Assist with mill tours for outside visitors and customers.
- Understand service center processing and products and outside processors (OP).
- Have the ability to communicate technical concepts in simple and relatable ways to foster understanding with both customers and our team.
- Collaborate with the sales team, mill metallurgists, to develop new grades/products or processes to support customers’ business and market needs.
- Collaborate with the customers to solve their steel-related processing problems.
- Work with technical and commercial teammates from other Nucor divisions to support customers near NCSI or in target markets.

Prepare quality reports, attend quality meetings as required, and participate in crossfunctional teams.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Engineering, or a similar technical field.
- At least two years of relevant industrial experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of hot rolled, pickled, and galvanized / galvannealed products
- Training in conducting root cause analysis and facilitating problem solving initiatives
- Familiarity with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodology
- Familiarity with IATF16949 or ISO 9001 and 8D Corrective Action requirements
