Mobile Developer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mobile developer in California?
Mobile developer roles in California do not require a state-issued license or registration, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most California employers look for a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering, or equivalent experience backed by a portfolio of shipped apps. Completing an accredited coding bootcamp with a mobile track, such as programs offered at California community colleges or universities in the UC and CSU systems, is a common alternative route.
How much do mobile developers make in California?
Mobile developers in California earn a median of about $174,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,060 for the lowest 10% to over $272,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mobile developers in California?
Employers hiring mobile developers in California right now include Blueprint, Procom Services America, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of consumer technology headquarters, streaming platforms, and fintech firms means mobile engineering roles here often focus on high-scale, consumer-facing products with large user bases.
Which California cities have the most mobile developer jobs?
San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and Redlands are the California cities with the most mobile developer openings. The Bay Area dominates because of its density of technology headquarters, while Los Angeles draws mobile engineering talent through its entertainment, streaming, and creator-economy companies, and San Diego contributes through its defense technology and biotech sectors, many of which have invested heavily in mobile platforms.
Are there remote mobile developer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 41% of mobile developer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and collaborative-tool-friendly nature of software development. Fully remote roles are most common on the product and application layer, while on-site or hybrid arrangements tend to appear when the role involves hardware integration, device testing labs, or embedded mobile work.
How can I get hired as a mobile developer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a portfolio of personal or open-source apps and applying to associate or junior software engineer programs at large California employers. Companies like Apple, Google, and Salesforce run structured new-grad hiring programs, and many California-based technology firms post apprenticeship or rotational engineering roles. Moving laterally from a QA engineer or web developer role is a common internal path, and holding a completed iOS or Android developer certification strengthens a candidate's application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to mobile developer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to mobile developer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across the state's major hiring markets. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly from the listing.
