About the Team
Our team exists to empower DoorDash Mobile engineers. We are the champions of three core pillars: Quality, Velocity, and Efficiency. Ultimately, our goal is to build the supportive infrastructure that allows our fellow engineers to build, ship, and operate apps at massive scale—with confidence and ease. We believe that a great developer experience leads to a great customer experience.
About the Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Mobile Developer Experience team (also known internally as the Mobile Foundations team). In this role, you'll not only set the technical vision but also nurture the culture required to build world-class mobile applications. Your team will concentrate on one vertical—ZeroKit, which enables rapid mobile prototyping via agents—and two horizontal infrastructure pillars: the iOS and Android monorepos. You will partner with senior engineers and stakeholders across the company to design systems that make our platform faster, more reliable, and more efficient.
You will be a partner to your customers—your fellow engineers—working side-by-side to understand their hurdles and solve their immediate challenges. You'll also look to the future, anticipating needs so we can deliver solutions before they become blockers. Crucially, this role will support our growing international engineering footprint and unified technology stack, meaning you and your team will work across our DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo brands.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a team through a mix of exciting greenfield initiatives and the refinement of established, successful tools. You must be located in the following locations for this opportunity: San Francisco, CA; Sunnyvale, CA; Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; New York, New York.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Develop and maintain foundational components to enable DoorDash Engineers to excel at mobile engineering.
- Lead the development and strategy for ZeroKit to enable rapid mobile prototyping via agents.
- Manage and optimize key horizontal infrastructure pillars, specifically the iOS and Android monorepos.
- Champion data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement across the team
- Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to drive long-term architectural direction and influence company-wide strategy
- Guide the team through ambiguity, leveraging industry best practices while also knowing when to break the mold
- Communicate with clarity, whether explaining a trade-off to execs or mapping technical strategy across teams
- Drive alignment across teams and disciplines, leading high-impact cross-functional initiatives
- Build, sustain, and grow a diverse team to address the growing needs of the organization
We're excited about you because you have…
- 7+ years of hands-on software development, and expert proficiency in either Android development or iOS development
- 3+ years leading engineering teams
- A strong bias for action, pragmatic problem-solving, and deep technical expertise
- Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives with measurable impact
- Intellectual curiosity to dive deep into the lowest level of detail and know when it is necessary to do so
- A deep understanding of how to build quality software and know how to balance this with delivering value to your customers.

Senior Mobile Developer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior mobile developer in California?
Senior mobile developer roles in California don't require a state-issued license, so the path runs through experience and portfolio. Most California employers expect a computer science or software engineering degree, several years of shipped mobile products, and fluency in Swift for iOS or Kotlin for Android. Large California tech employers typically promote from within or hire candidates who can show complex, production-grade work, so a strong GitHub profile and App Store or Google Play release history carry real weight.
How much do senior mobile developers make in California?
Senior mobile developers in California earn a median of about $174,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,060 for the lowest 10% to over $272,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior mobile developers in California?
Employers hiring senior mobile developers in California right now include DoorDash, Herbalife, and UC San Diego, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's concentration of consumer tech headquarters, fintech companies, and health tech platforms means senior mobile roles appear across a wide range of industries beyond pure software firms.
Which California cities have the most senior mobile developer jobs?
The cities with the most senior mobile developer openings in California are Irvine, Burbank, and Fremont. San Francisco and its surrounding Bay Area account for a large share of openings because of the density of consumer tech and enterprise software headquarters there, while Los Angeles drives demand through its entertainment technology, e-commerce, and startup ecosystem, and San Diego contributes through its biotech and defense tech sectors.
Are there remote senior mobile developer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of senior mobile developer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how portable this work is by nature. Architecture work, code reviews, and cross-platform development are the parts of the role most often done fully remotely, while on-site presence is more common for teams building hardware-integrated or enterprise mobile products.
How can I get hired as a senior mobile developer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an associate or junior mobile developer role at a California-based mid-size tech company, then building toward senior through demonstrated project ownership. Companies like Apple, Google, and Intuit run new-grad software engineering programs in California that accept candidates with strong internship portfolios. Lateral moves from web front-end or QA automation engineering are common, and completing a published iOS or Android app with clean architecture is the credential that most consistently opens doors without formal seniority.
Where can I find and apply to senior mobile developer jobs in California?
