Nuclear Medicine Tech Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nuclear medicine tech in New York?
New York requires nuclear medicine technologists to hold an active license issued by the New York State Department of Health before practicing independently. To qualify, candidates must complete an accredited nuclear medicine technology program at the associate or bachelor's level and pass either the ARRT or NMTCB national certification exam. New York does not accept licensure by reciprocity alone, so out-of-state techs must apply directly to the state for a New York license.
How much do nuclear medicine teches make in New York?
Nuclear medicine teches in New York earn a median of about $118,650 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,870 for the lowest 10% to over $134,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nuclear medicine techs in New York?
Employers hiring nuclear medicine techs in New York right now include NYU Langone Health, Albany Medical Center, and Newark Wayne Community Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large academic medical centers and integrated health systems drive the bulk of consistent openings, particularly for techs with PET/CT or cardiac imaging experience.
Which New York cities have the most nuclear medicine tech jobs?
Albany, New York, and Staten Island have the most nuclear medicine tech openings in New York. New York City accounts for the largest share because of its concentration of major academic medical centers and specialty hospitals, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand through regional health systems and university-affiliated medical facilities that serve large surrounding populations.
Are there remote nuclear medicine tech jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Nuclear medicine technology is a hands-on clinical role requiring direct patient contact and operation of imaging equipment on-site, which limits remote work significantly. About 0% of nuclear medicine tech openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles typically involve telehealth consultation, image reading support, or quality assurance functions rather than direct patient scanning.
How can I get hired as a nuclear medicine tech in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a new-graduate or trainee position at one of New York's large health systems, such as Northwell Health or Montefiore, which periodically recruit new grads into structured onboarding programs. Candidates coming from radiologic technology or sonography can transition laterally if they complete an additional nuclear medicine certificate program. Holding a current New York State license and ARRT or NMTCB certification at the time of application gives an edge even without years of independent experience.
