Nursing Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a nursing job in Philadelphia?
Focus your search on Philadelphia's major health system hubs in University City, Center City, and Kensington, where academic medical centers, trauma hospitals, and community health networks cluster. Critical care, emergency, oncology, and labor and delivery specialties see the strongest demand locally. Candidates with clinical rotations completed at Philadelphia institutions and familiarity with underserved-population care tend to stand out in this market.
Which companies hire nursings in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia nursing roles are posted by Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, Penn Medicine, and Temple University Health System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is anchored by large academic health systems, regional community hospitals, and federally qualified health centers serving Philadelphia's diverse neighborhoods.
Are there remote nursing jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though remote work is limited in nursing since most roles require direct patient care. About 11% of nursing openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in roles such as telephonic case management, utilization review, and telehealth triage. Philadelphia's large insurance and managed care presence supports more of these desk-based nursing positions than many comparable cities.
How can I get a nursing job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is a new-graduate residency program at one of the city's large academic health systems, which offer structured orientation and mentorship for nurses entering specialties like med-surg, pediatrics, and behavioral health. Community health centers and long-term care facilities across neighborhoods like Germantown and Frankford also hire new graduates for direct-care roles. Completing a capstone or externship at a Philadelphia institution before graduation gives applicants a measurable local advantage.
Which industries hire the most nursings in Philadelphia?
The sectors hiring the most nursings in Philadelphia are Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's status as a major academic medicine hub, combined with its large insured and underinsured population base, keeps hospital systems and outpatient networks among the city's most consistent nursing employers.
