INTRODUCTION
UPMC St. Margaret is seeking an MRI Technologist to join a busy, collaborative imaging department.
The schedule includes rotating shifts Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., with weekend hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Shifts are 8 or 10 hours, with required availability Monday through Sunday. Evening, weekend, holiday, and on‑call coverage are part of the rotation; however, there are no overnight shifts, and call‑ins are closely monitored. Occasional coverage at the Natrona Heights location may be required based on staffing. Prior MRI experience is preferred due to the department’s high volume and 30‑minute scan slots, but all applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be considered.

Responsibilities

Practices and maintains MRI safety standards within the department.

Maintains clinical competency for all MRI exams and equipment.

Reviews, processes, and archives imaging studies according to departmental procedures.

Prior to the start of each exam, reviews all relevant patient information and presents required details to the physician in accordance with established protocols.

Accurately identifies patients using two patient identifiers and follows universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and physician orders, applies departmental protocols for optimal image acquisition, and ensures proper preparation, labeling, and administration of contrast when applicable. Documents patient history and exam details in the electronic medical record as required.

Ensures all exams are properly coded and tracked through the RIS system, patient information is updated and documented in Rad Assessment, images are correctly networked to iSITE for archiving and interpretation, and all applicable charges are entered accurately.

Communicates instructions to patients clearly and concisely, explains procedures to help alleviate anxiety, and promotes patient cooperation throughout the exam process.

Demonstrates the ability to interact effectively with patients and coworkers by showing a high level of caring, active listening, dignity, and respect, and works collaboratively across departments to support efficient patient care.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or completion of an accredited CNMT, ARMRIT or ARDMS program. ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date.

MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained. CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCES

ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date. MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained. CNMT, RDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date. CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. If working in a NY facility, you must have received certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and be Licensed through the New York State Department of Health.
