Tips for Your MRI Technologist Job Search
List every scanner model you've operated
Hiring managers scan for specific equipment experience, so name the exact MRI systems you've used, such as Siemens MAGNETOM, GE SIGNA, or Philips Ingenia. Vague mentions of 'high-field MRI' won't pass an applicant tracking system filter.
Target openings by field strength requirement
Many listings specify 1.5T or 3T experience as a hard requirement. Filter for roles that match your actual scanner experience so you're not screened out automatically before a recruiter sees your application.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists mri technologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Show ARRT registry status and specialty certs
Put your ARRT registration number and any advanced certifications, like MR safety officer training or cardiac MRI credentialing, in a dedicated credentials line near the top of your resume so they're visible before a recruiter reads your work history.
Prepare to walk through a difficult scan scenario
Interviewers often ask how you'd handle a claustrophobic patient, a pacemaker screening question, or an artifact troubleshooting situation. Rehearse a specific example from your clinical experience for each of these before your interview.
Negotiate shift differentials, not just base pay
Many mri technologist roles include night, weekend, or on-call premiums that can add meaningfully to total compensation. Ask about differential rates and call-back pay during the offer stage, not after you've accepted.
MRI Technologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most mri technologists?
The companies hiring the most mri technologists right now include Advocate Aurora Health, Atrium Health, and Trinity Health, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, New York, and North Carolina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest at large health systems, regional hospital networks, and dedicated outpatient imaging chains.
How many mri technologist jobs are remote?
About 0% of mri technologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, since most roles require hands-on scanner operation and direct patient care. The sub-areas with the most remote flexibility include teleradiology support roles, MRI safety consulting, and training or education positions for imaging staff.
How do you become a mri technologist?
You typically complete an accredited radiologic technology program that includes dedicated MRI clinical rotations, then pass the ARRT MRI registry exam to earn certification. Some technologists enter through a radiography credential first and add an MRI postprimary certification afterward. Most states require licensure in addition to ARRT registration, so confirm your state's specific requirements before applying.
How do you get hired as a mri technologist with little experience?
Focus on roles at large hospital systems that hire new graduates directly into structured training programs, since those employers are more likely to invest in onboarding a candidate who is registry-eligible but not yet fully independent. Highlight your clinical rotation hours, the scanner models you trained on, and any case volume data from your program. Applying to per-diem or part-time openings alongside full-time roles can also get you into a facility where a permanent position may open later.
What does the mri technologist interview process look like?
Most facilities start with a phone or video screen with a recruiter focused on credentials, availability, and shift preferences. A second round with the lead technologist or imaging director typically includes scenario-based questions on patient safety, contrast protocols, and artifact troubleshooting. Some employers ask candidates to complete a brief practical skills checklist or shadow a current tech before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to mri technologist jobs?
You can find and apply to mri technologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your credentials, scanner experience, and preferred location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
