MRI Technologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mri technologist in New York?
To work as an mri technologist in New York, you must hold a New York State license issued by the Department of Health's Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection, which requires completing an accredited radiologic technology program and passing the ARRT exam. Most candidates first earn radiography licensure, then add the ARRT MRI post-primary credential to qualify for MRI-specific roles. New York does not issue a standalone MRI-only license, so the radiography foundation is the required starting point.
How much do MRI technologists make in New York?
MRI technologists in New York earn a median of about $113,270 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,180 for the lowest 10% to over $133,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mri technologists in New York?
Employers hiring mri technologists in New York right now include NYU Langone Health, Trinity Health, and Newark Wayne Community Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of large academic medical systems and regional hospital networks means openings appear consistently across both urban centers and suburban outpatient facilities throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most mri technologist jobs?
The cities with the most mri technologist openings in New York are Rochester, New York, and Albany. New York City drives the majority of volume given its concentration of large academic medical centers and high-capacity imaging programs, while Buffalo and Albany reflect strong regional hospital networks anchored by institutions like Kaleida Health and Albany Medical Center that maintain steady imaging staffing needs.
Are there remote mri technologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. MRI technologists perform hands-on patient scanning, which requires physical presence in a clinical setting, so fully remote roles are not typical for this profession. About 2% of mri technologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve teleradiology support, scheduling coordination, or quality assurance functions rather than direct scanning duties.
How can I get hired as a mri technologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a new-graduate or MRI tech trainee position at a large New York hospital system such as Northwell Health or NewYork-Presbyterian, both of which have posted structured onboarding programs for candidates who hold their ARRT radiography credential but lack dedicated MRI hours. Coming from a radiography, CT, or nuclear medicine technologist role gives you a strong lateral foundation. Completing a clinical MRI rotation during your program and pursuing the ARRT MRI post-primary exam early signals readiness to New York hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to mri technologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to mri technologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings to see roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
