Oncology Social Worker Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a oncology social worker in Indiana?
You must earn a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and then obtain licensure through the Indiana Social Work Certification and Licensure Board, which oversees the Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Social Worker credentials. After accumulating the required supervised clinical hours, you apply for the LCSW. Most Indiana cancer centers and hospital oncology programs require the LCSW, and holding or pursuing the OSW-C certification from the Association of Oncology Social Work strengthens your candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in Indiana?
Indiana oncology social worker roles are posted by Community Health Network, Indiana University Health, and Beacon Health System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indiana's large integrated health systems, which operate dedicated cancer institutes and regional oncology clinics, account for the majority of these openings across the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most oncology social worker jobs?
Indianapolis, Evansville, and Fort Wayne have the most oncology social worker openings in Indiana right now. Indianapolis drives the largest share because it is home to major cancer care infrastructure including the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and multiple Franciscan and Ascension campuses, while Fort Wayne and South Bend each support large regional health systems that operate oncology service lines drawing patients from across northern Indiana.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Oncology social work is grounded in direct patient contact, bedside support, and in-person interdisciplinary rounds, which limits remote opportunities significantly. About 36% of oncology social worker openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to involve telephonic case management, care navigation, or post-discharge follow-up counseling rather than acute inpatient or infusion center work.
How can I get hired as a oncology social worker in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a graduate field placement or post-MSW internship within an Indiana hospital oncology or palliative care unit, which several large systems including Indiana University Health and Franciscan Health offer through formal partnerships with Indiana University and other accredited MSW programs. After graduation, applying for social worker I or care coordinator roles within oncology departments gives you supervised exposure while you accumulate hours toward your LCSW. Lateral moves from medical social worker, discharge planner, or behavioral health case manager positions are common stepping stones, and beginning the OSW-C certification process early signals commitment to the specialty.
Where can I find and apply to oncology social worker jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to oncology social worker jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings from health systems and cancer centers across the state. Find roles that fit your credentials and experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
