Operating Room Technician Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operating room technician in Idaho?
Idaho does not require a state-issued license specifically for operating room technicians, so the path runs through accredited education and national certification. Most Idaho employers require or strongly prefer graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited surgical technology program, which typically takes about two years for an associate degree. After completing the program, candidates sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist exam through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Holding active CST certification is the clearest credential that opens doors at Idaho hospital systems.
Which companies hire operating room technicians in Idaho?
Companies currently hiring operating room technicians in Idaho include American Traveler, Northwest Specialty Hospital, and Northwest, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Idaho's larger health systems tend to post the most consistent volume, particularly for facilities running high-acuity surgical services across multiple campuses.
Which Idaho cities have the most operating room technician jobs?
Post Falls, Boise, and Lewiston have the most operating room technician openings in Idaho. Boise drives the largest share of postings as the state's population and medical center hub, while Idaho Falls and Twin Falls draw steady demand from regional hospitals serving large rural catchment areas where those facilities are the primary surgical resource for surrounding communities.
Are there remote operating room technician jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. Operating room technician work is inherently hands-on and performed inside a sterile surgical suite, which rules out remote work for the vast majority of positions. About 0% of operating room technician openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, and those are almost exclusively administrative, education, or training coordination roles attached to surgical services departments rather than direct scrub tech positions.
How can I get hired as a operating room technician in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program that includes a supervised clinical externship inside an Idaho operating room, since that externship often converts directly into a job offer. St. Luke's Health System and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center both hire new graduates for structured OR tech roles that build case experience under senior staff supervision. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as sterile processing technician or surgical aide have also made the transition successfully. Holding an active CST credential, even as a new grad, gives Idaho employers the compliance baseline they need to place you on a live surgical team quickly.
