Operating Room Technician Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operating room technician in Florida?
Florida does not issue a state license specifically for operating room technicians, but most Florida hospitals require national certification through the NBSTSA (Certified Surgical Technologist) or the NCCT (Tech in Surgery-Certified) credential. The path typically starts with completing an accredited surgical technology program at a Florida college or vocational school, followed by a national certification exam. Employers across Florida health systems treat one of these credentials as the practical entry requirement.
Which companies hire operating room technicians in Florida?
Employers hiring operating room technicians in Florida right now include HealthTrust Workforce Solutions, United Surgical Partners, and American Traveler, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's large integrated health systems and specialty surgical centers drive the majority of consistent openings across the state.
Which Florida cities have the most operating room technician jobs?
Tampa, Miami, and Jacksonville have the most operating room technician openings in Florida. The distribution reflects the concentration of major hospital campuses and surgical centers in those metros, with large systems like HCA Florida and AdventHealth anchoring demand in Tampa and Orlando, while Miami's high surgical volume supports both hospital-based and freestanding ambulatory surgery center hiring.
Are there remote operating room technician jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Operating room technician work is inherently hands-on and requires physical presence in a sterile surgical environment, so the vast majority of openings are fully on-site. About 0% of operating room technician openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are typically in adjacent areas like surgical scheduling coordination or OR supply chain management rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a operating room technician in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited surgical technology program and applying directly to new-grad or extern programs at large Florida health systems, including those run by HCA Florida and AdventHealth at multiple campuses. Candidates who come from adjacent roles such as sterile processing technician or certified nursing assistant have a natural transition advantage, since those positions build familiarity with surgical instruments and hospital workflows. Earning the CST credential before or during your first job search gives Florida hiring managers a concrete signal of readiness even without direct OR experience.
Where can I find and apply to operating room technician jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to operating room technician jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Florida employers. Search the listings to find roles that match your certification, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
