Physical Therapist Assistant Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapist assistant in Florida?
You must earn an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist assistant program, then pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. After passing, you apply for licensure through the Florida Board of Physical Therapy Practice under the Florida Department of Health. Florida requires a separate jurisprudence component confirming knowledge of state practice laws before a license is issued.
How much do physical therapist assistants make in Florida?
Physical therapist assistants in Florida earn a median of about $72,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,650 for the lowest 10% to over $81,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapist assistants in Florida?
Employers hiring physical therapist assistants in Florida right now include The Lakes Home Care, tmc, and CenterWell, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's large network of skilled nursing facilities, hospital-based rehabilitation units, and outpatient orthopedic clinics means hiring is consistent across both major metro areas and smaller regional markets throughout the state.
Which Florida cities have the most physical therapist assistant jobs?
Jacksonville, Miami, and Sarasota have the most physical therapist assistant openings in Florida. Tampa and Orlando drive volume through their concentration of major hospital systems and outpatient rehab groups, while Miami's large and older urban population fuels demand across skilled nursing and home health settings throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Are there remote physical therapist assistant jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapist assistant work is hands-on by nature, requiring direct patient contact for exercise instruction, manual techniques, and progress monitoring. About 2% of physical therapist assistant openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve care coordination, documentation review, or telehealth supervision rather than direct treatment delivery.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist assistant in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate positions at Florida's large skilled nursing and post-acute rehabilitation networks, which regularly onboard PTAs directly from accredited programs. HCA Florida Healthcare and Encompass Health both operate structured clinical onboarding for new PTAs across multiple Florida facilities. Candidates who completed clinical rotations at Florida-based sites have a clear advantage, as do those with prior experience as a physical therapy aide or rehabilitation technician, which is a common lateral move into a licensed PTA role.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that match your experience, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
