Physical Therapist Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapist assistant in Texas?
You must earn an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist assisting program and then apply for licensure through the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. The board requires you to pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs before a license is issued. Once licensed, Texas requires ongoing continuing education to renew your license on a biennial basis, keeping your credentials current for practice in the state.
How much do physical therapist assistants make in Texas?
Physical therapist assistants in Texas earn a median of about $78,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,900 for the lowest 10% to over $99,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapist assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring physical therapist assistants in Texas right now include Rehab Employee Services, Rehab Employee Services, and HealthPRO Heritage, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and specialty rehabilitation networks tend to hire consistently throughout the year, making them reliable targets for both new graduates and experienced clinicians.
Which Texas cities have the most physical therapist assistant jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas account for the most physical therapist assistant openings in Texas, reflecting where the state's largest rehabilitation hospital networks, outpatient orthopedic groups, and home health agencies are concentrated. Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston anchor demand through major health systems, while San Antonio's large veteran and military population drives steady openings in post-surgical and neurological rehab settings.
Are there remote physical therapist assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapist assistant work is inherently hands-on and requires direct patient contact, so the vast majority of roles are on-site. About 0% of physical therapist assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve care coordination, documentation review, or telehealth support functions rather than direct clinical treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate positions at large Texas rehabilitation hospital networks and outpatient orthopedic groups, which regularly bring on licensed PTAs without prior clinical work history beyond fieldwork rotations. Encompass Health and CHRISTUS Health both operate structured onboarding programs for new graduates in Texas. Candidates who completed their clinical rotations at Texas facilities have an advantage, and holding an active Texas PTA license before applying removes the most common hiring barrier employers cite.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now.
