Physical Therapist Assistant Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapist assistant in Ohio?
To become a physical therapist assistant in Ohio, you must complete an accredited associate degree program in physical therapist assisting, pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs, and obtain a license from the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board. Ohio requires this state license before you can practice. Applications are submitted directly to the board, and the license must be renewed on a set schedule.
How much do physical therapist assistants make in Ohio?
Physical therapist assistants in Ohio earn a median of about $63,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,280 for the lowest 10% to over $84,130 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapist assistants in Ohio?

Ohio's large integrated health systems and its substantial network of skilled nursing and long-term care facilities create steady, broad-based demand for physical therapist assistants throughout the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most physical therapist assistant jobs?
Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo have the most physical therapist assistant openings in Ohio right now. Columbus drives the highest volume through its concentration of major hospital systems and outpatient rehabilitation networks, while Cleveland and Cincinnati anchor their surrounding regions with large academic medical centers, specialty rehabilitation hospitals, and long-term care facilities that hire physical therapist assistants on a continuing basis.
Are there remote physical therapist assistant jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapist assistant work is hands-on and requires in-person patient contact, so remote roles represent a small share of openings. About 0% of physical therapist assistant openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve care coordination, telehealth support, or administrative functions rather than direct patient treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist assistant in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly for new-graduate positions at Ohio's larger health systems, which regularly onboard candidates who have completed their PTA associate degree and passed the NPTE. OhioHealth, Cleveland Clinic, and Premier Health all post new-grad roles and offer structured clinical orientation for PTAs without prior employment experience. Working as a rehabilitation aide or patient care technician at a skilled nursing facility beforehand builds practical exposure and often leads directly to PTA openings within the same organization once you are licensed.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Ohio?
