Operating Room Technician Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operating room technician in Kentucky?
You become an operating room technician in Kentucky by completing an accredited surgical technology program, typically offered as an associate degree or certificate at institutions such as Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College or Jefferson Community and Technical College. Kentucky does not currently issue a state license for surgical technologists, but most employers require national certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, which awards the CST credential after passing its certification exam.
Which companies hire operating room technicians in Kentucky?
Companies currently hiring operating room technicians in Kentucky include American Traveler, SCA Health, and Norton Healthcare, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Kentucky's large integrated health systems and independent surgical centers both hire regularly, with the most sustained volume coming from hospital networks serving Louisville and Lexington.
Which Kentucky cities have the most operating room technician jobs?
Louisville, Paducah, and Lexington have the most operating room technician openings in Kentucky. Louisville leads because of its density of major hospital systems and ambulatory surgery centers, Lexington draws volume from UK HealthCare and nearby regional medical centers, and smaller cities on the list typically reflect a large anchor employer, such as a regional hospital or specialty surgical group, driving local hiring.
How can I get hired as a operating room technician in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a surgical technology externship embedded in your accredited program, which often leads directly to a job offer at the host facility. Large Kentucky employers such as Norton Healthcare and UK HealthCare hire new graduates into scrub technician roles and sometimes offer structured new-hire orientation tracks. Candidates who transition from roles such as surgical technologist assistant, central sterile processing technician, or patient care technician have a concrete advantage, and holding or pursuing the CST credential signals readiness to Kentucky hiring teams even before you accumulate experience.
Where can I find and apply to operating room technician jobs in Kentucky?
