Social Work Assistant Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a social work assistant in Kentucky?
To work as a social work assistant in Kentucky, you typically need an associate or bachelor's degree in social work or a related human services field. The Kentucky Board of Social Work oversees licensure in the state, and some assistant-level roles require registration as a Social Worker Associate. Employers in child welfare and behavioral health often require completion of Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services onboarding training before you begin working with clients.
Which companies hire social work assistants in Kentucky?
Employers hiring social work assistants in Kentucky right now include University of Kentucky, Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, and Kentucky State University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Kentucky's large public sector footprint means state agencies and nonprofit community mental health centers consistently account for a significant share of openings across the state.
Which Kentucky cities have the most social work assistant jobs?
The cities with the most social work assistant openings in Kentucky are Lexington, Frankfort, and Elizabethtown. Louisville dominates because of its concentration of hospital systems, state agency regional offices, and large nonprofit providers, while Lexington draws demand from its university-affiliated clinics and regional behavioral health networks, and Bowling Green reflects growth in social services tied to its expanding manufacturing and refugee resettlement communities.
Are there remote social work assistant jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, but they're rare. Social work assistant roles are largely hands-on, involving in-person client contact, home visits, and direct case support that cannot be done remotely. About 0% of social work assistant openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to involve documentation, telephone intake screening, or administrative case coordination rather than direct field work.
How can I get hired as a social work assistant in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which regularly hires program support staff and family service workers at the entry level with no prior experience required beyond a relevant degree. Community mental health agencies like Seven Counties Services and Comprehend also hire support staff into supervised roles. Completing a field placement or practicum through a Kentucky community college social work program and earning your Social Worker Associate registration with the Kentucky Board of Social Work both strengthen a new candidate's application significantly.
