Core Responsibilities

Under the close supervision of a licensed social worker, an intern can expect to perform a variety of duties:

• Client Assessment and Support
  • Conduct initial and comprehensive psychosocial assessments to determine client needs and goals.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling or therapy sessions, often co-facilitating with a licensed professional.
  • Assist clients in adjusting to life challenges such as illness, unemployment, or family issues.
  • Observe and assist in crisis intervention procedures.
• Case Management and Resource Coordination
  • Develop and implement service or treatment plans.
  • Research, refer, and advocate for community resources, such as housing, food assistance, healthcare, and childcare.
  • Monitor client progress and ensure compliance with treatment plans and agency guidelines.
• Documentation and Administration
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely client records, case files, and progress notes to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Manage and organize an assigned caseload of clients.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as organizing documents and updating records.
• Team Collaboration and Professional Development
  • Participate actively in team meetings, case conferences, and supervision sessions (both individual and group).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, teachers, and other support staff.
• • Attend and occasionally lead training sessions or workshops on relevant topics like assessment techniques, ethical practices, and cultural competency.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Successful social work interns typically possess the following skills and qualities:

• Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) degree program.
