Operating Room Technician Jobs in West Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operating room technician in West Virginia?
The standard path in West Virginia is completing a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program at a community college or technical school, then sitting for the Certified Surgical Technologist exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. West Virginia does not mandate a separate state license for surgical technologists, but most hospitals and surgical centers in the state require active CST certification as a condition of employment. Programs at institutions like BridgeValley Community and Technical College provide the clinical hours needed to qualify.
Which companies hire operating room technicians in West Virginia?
West Virginia operating room technician roles are posted by Mon Health, WVU Medicine, and American Traveler and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large integrated health systems like WVU Medicine and CAMC Health System are among the most consistent sources of openings given their multi-facility surgical volumes across the state.
Which West Virginia cities have the most operating room technician jobs?
Charleston, Morgantown, and Bridgeport are the West Virginia cities with the most operating room technician openings. Charleston leads because CAMC and Thomas Health operate multiple surgical facilities there, Huntington follows as the home of Marshall Health and a dense concentration of specialty surgery practices, and Morgantown generates volume through WVU Medicine's academic medical center, which performs high-complexity procedures that require a larger scrub tech staff.
Are there remote operating room technician jobs in West Virginia?
Yes, but they're rare. Operating room technician work is inherently hands-on and requires physical presence in a sterile surgical field, so the role does not lend itself to remote arrangements. About 0% of operating room technician openings tied to West Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve sterile processing coordination or surgical technology education rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a operating room technician in West Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to WVU Medicine or CAMC Health System, both of which periodically hire new CST graduates into supervised orientation programs that pair them with senior scrub techs for their first several months. Candidates without surgical tech credentials often start as sterile processing technicians or surgical assistants at community hospitals in cities like Beckley or Clarksburg, then transition into the OR once they have floor-level surgical exposure. Holding active CST certification, even as a new graduate, significantly improves your standing over uncertified applicants at West Virginia facilities.
Where can I find and apply to operating room technician jobs in West Virginia?
You can find and apply to operating room technician jobs in West Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, specialty background, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
